I was in a mood today, maybe the gorgeous, albeit hot, weather. Regardless of the cause of said mood, I felt like snapping some of the things I find beautiful in my living quarters. And on a closing note, the last photo is one of the reasons I am a firm believer in hand washing your laundry. There’s something very romantic about underthings hanging in the breeze. (Although, I’m sure the bigger reason I hand wash, is because I’m irrationally afraid of the washing machine chomping my clothes into bits.)

I’m going to take a time-out from fashion to introduce a non-profit art group that is changing the way graffiti writers, artists and protesters communicate—and if you’re already familiar, then let’s hope you’ll just stay to enjoy all the pretty lights (and amazing Knife cover). Graffiti Research Lab runs lab and field experiments and documents them along with DIY instructions which are made available for everyone. Inventing the LED throwies put GRL on the map.

And remember in life science when the teacher confiscated your laser pointer for highlighting the ill-fitting points of his Dockers? Well now we are all grown up, technology has increased exponentially, and no one is confiscating our laser pointers!

That’s just scratching the surface of what they’ve been doing over at GRL. Highly impressive group. I’m excited to see future developments from them as well.

And maybe this post will even inspire some of you to make throwies and bombard your families’ homes with them for the holiday season.

The girl gets to live in a dream house, drive a pink convertible, marry Ken and have an 18” waist!? And to top it all off, now she has better shoes than me!

Although, its sort of sweet that Net-a-Porter so kindly suggests I wear it with Miss 120 platform ankle boots. After all, isn’t it every little girl’s dream to look and dress just like her Barbie?

Forget about that, no Barbie of mine is going to wear better shoes! Give me IRL Barbie.

What’s that you say? This is merely nothing more than Urban Outfitter’s way of capitalizing on the Snuggie craze by slapping on an alt friendly Indian print? Pish posh! Well now that you mention it, it certainly does look an ominous blanket with sleeves and a hood.

I hear an awful lot of talk about Gossip Girl and this so called Queen Bee, Blair Waldorf. My naturally curious ways led me to checking her out on a couple of episodes. The girl has got style, I’ll give her that. And yes, she’s got the quips. But there was something about her that irked me. Blair Waldorf is to those growing up in the new millennia what Cher Horowitz was/is to Gen X. This is a rather sad statement , because my generation got the better end of the deal.

Both girls have classic styles. Plaid, headbands, pleated skirts, over-knee-socks, coordinated. All very naughty-school-girl-with-a-penchant-for-maxing-out-daddy’s-AMEX. Blair’s style is upper-east side all the way. Perfect tresses, perfectly styled, never caught in pants. Its too close a call in this category. Although, the fact that Cher wore an Alai dress in Clueless is making me believe all you fashionistas know which side of the fence you need to be on.

Cher has it on the attitude. Both girls have the clever, witty comebacks and good use of pop references. But Blair will never be quoted as often as Miss Horowitz. Come on, she’s the girl who taught that “searching for a boy in high school is as useless as searching for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie”. Also, it always helps when you are genuinely good-hearted person that isn’t out to sleep with/stab friends in the back/climb to the top.

Oh yes, and the ultimate barometer of cool. Cher did something before the Olsen twins—she drank Starbucks.

A wool beret is very Parisian, very classic, oh-so-Cher.

This structured blazer cuts in the waist giving you a very sexy, feminine shape.

In the movie Cher can be seen wearing a sheer button-down, like this one, perfect worn over a mini skirt and tiny camisole.

This plaid mini is the more accessible version of Cher’s pleated skirts.

How to do a party right? Sexy, short designer dress. And this Alexander Wang is 2009’s answer to Cher’s Calvin Klein.

So You Wanna Be Queen Bee?

Through the decades film has given us some valuable lessons. Many of which I’m sure actually significant and worthy of being the center of discussion. But the lesson we are going to cover today is how to rule to your school.

Point number one, come to the realization that you ARE the most relevant person in your class—scratch that—you are the most relevant person, PERIOD. Regina George knew it, her predecessor Courtney Shane knew it, and OG mean girl, Heather Chandler was well aware.

Point number two, build up an ‘army of skanks’. This one should be pretty self-explanatory. Small disclaimer though, if the fine bevy of cinema I’ve collected as examples has proven anything, it is that they will inevitably turn on you when your head gets too big (which will, inevitably, happen seeing as you believe you are the most relevant person).

Point number three, learn to travel with your entourage at all times. Ideally, you should position yourself in the middle and have your minions flanking you. This will create an obstruction that people will have to move to avoid—therefore, forcing them to take notice of you!

Point number four, hot wardrobe. This isn’t just about being in fashion, it is about getting attention. As a matter of fact, you are now what’s in fashion. So show ‘em what you’re working with.

The nice thing about this top you won’t have to worry about the principal calling you into his office for violating dress code—believe me, he’ll be much intimidated.

Everything the most popular girl needs in a skirt. Short. Tight. And irresistible for boys to keep their paws off.

The ultimate ‘mean girl’ shoe. Mary Jane’s have long been a staple to any young lady’s wardrobe—and these are the ‘almost’ grown up version. Straddling the fence in the best sort of way.

I Can Be Anything I Wanna Be, Its the 90s

There was something magical about 90s sitcoms. Fresh Prince, In Living Color, Roseanne, list goes on. . . I would like to take a moment to commemorate the wonder that is Kelly Bundy. She was famous for her lack of clothing, and the little that she did wear was spectacular. Let us observe and.

You know, the girl actually had style. My Kelly inspired outfits:

101 Times Over

I just realized my last post was my 100th! It made me get a little weepy and nostalgic so I started cycling through old posts. I’ve compiled ten of my favorites to let you all re-live the magic with me. Also! I feel like my blog has finally hit its stride. A few posts back I got my first ‘negative anonymous’ comment! Yay, I’m somebody in the fashion blogosphere.

Style Icon: Nico This was supposed to be an on-going case study of different icons. After looking through Bardot, Bow and Nico’s I came to the conclusion that maybe its time to work on some more inspiration collages!

Fashion Rewind Maybe its not my most well-put together post, but I have a lot emotional attachment to this one. This was one of the first fashion editorials I can remember making a big impact on me. (I was late getting into this scene I guess…)

Do Your Ears Hang Low? I still remember how excited I was over those shorts. Every one of those outfits made me giddy, still do. Sigh… why didn’t I order them before they went extinct?

All That Glitters Yes, another outfit collage. How I wish I could dress every day.

Don’t Be Caught With Your Drawers Down I adore the style of all the ladies I have featured, but I chose this particular one because it got the whole series started.

Not For Sale Anymore This particular post didn’t receive the positive approval of some others I have done. But I love it none-the-less. Mostly because it really is my ultimate fantasy to be on a stage performing.

Lucy in the Sky with Rhinestones If I ever was bold enough to go for a styling position, I’d use this in my portfolio.

Short Shorts Not necessarily the most ground breaking outfit I have created, but I adore it because this is about as close to my everyday wear as it gets.

Sequined Hot Shorts Still think it’d make the best vacation outfit.

Heart 90′s 3 of 3, Heart 90′s 2 of 3 Okay, so I figure its okay to combine these as number ten on my list. After all, they are a part of a series. The 90’s is my favorite decade, not only for fashion, but especially for music. (The 70’s only run a fraction of a point behind.) So again, with the emotional attachment.

How many of us have dreamed about who’s closets we’d rage if permitted? I really hope I’m not the only one who has secretly longed to indulge myself in someone else’s racks and shelves of clothes and accessories. This dream is about to come true for a select number of wealthy/lucky individuals. Over the early months of December, there will be an auction held in London. The stuff being auctioned. . . oh just Miss Audrey Hepburn’s personal wardrobe. Am I deeply resentful that I lack the funds to a) attend the auction and b) purchase anything from said auction? Yes. And before I close out the night, two bits of news! The winner of the August give-a-way never claimed there prize still. So not only do I have a September winner, but there is also an August winner! Second bit of news, I’ve started a little side project. Its a personal growth thing. I’m going to challenge myself over the next year to find one new artist a day and make a little write-up on them. Today is Day 01/365 and I’ve already got the first artist up. Please, please check it out!
